About

Who We Are

The Tasmanian Online Lions Club believes every Tasmanian has the right to live free from violence and fear in their own home.

Service That Goes Beyond

Every Tasmanian deserves to live free from violence and fear. Yet, behind closed doors across our state, family violence and coercive control continue to cause profound harm. It affects people of all ages, backgrounds, and postcodes.

For too long, family violence was treated as a private matter — something kept hidden. But silence enables harm. When we look the other way, the cycle continues.

We believe this is a community issue that requires a long-term community response. Real change starts with understanding what abuse looks like, recognising the early warning signs, and having the courage to speak up, reach out, and support one another.

Why We Built This Site

Family violence affects Tasmanians from all walks of life — across all ages, backgrounds, and communities. In 2021–22 alone, Tasmania Police attended 6,743 family violence incidents. Behind each of those numbers are real people — mothers, fathers, children, partners, and family members — whose lives have been impacted by violence in their own homes.

We know that family violence thrives in silence. It continues when we look away, when we tell ourselves it’s not our business, or when we simply don’t know how to help.

This site exists to break that silence — to make information accessible, to connect people with support, and to help Tasmanians recognise, respond to, and recover from family violence.

Family violence is not a private matter — it’s a community issue that requires a community response.

What We Do

Our work spans awareness, support, prevention, advocacy, accountability, and culture — because ending family violence requires action on every front.

Raise Awareness

We educate our community about the signs, forms, and impacts of family violence — so more people can recognise it when it happens.

Support Victim-Survivors

Through partnerships with specialist services, we help connect people who are experiencing violence with the support they need.

Promote Prevention

We invest in education, respectful relationships programs, and early intervention so violence is less likely to occur in the first place.

Advocate for Change

We advocate for improved services, better support systems, and policies that centre the safety and dignity of victim-survivors across Tasmania.

Hold Perpetrators Accountable

We support systems and programs that hold those who use violence responsible for their behaviour and its impacts.

Build a Culture of Respect

We help create a community where violence is never acceptable — where everyone is safe, respected, and valued in their own home.

A Community Response to a Community Problem

When violence happens behind closed doors, it affects not just those directly involved, but ripples out through families, neighbourhoods, workplaces, and schools across Tasmania.

Ending family violence requires long-term commitment and coordinated action. It’s complex work, but it’s essential work. As Lions, we’re in it for the long haul.

Whether you’re a victim-survivor, someone concerned about a loved one, or a community member who wants to make a difference — this site is for you.
