Working It Out partners with Engender Equality, to run a specialized LGBTIQA+ Family Violence Service in Tasmania. The service specializes in providing trauma-informed therapeutic services to LGBTIQA+ people in Tasmania who have experienced intimate partner violence. Services are available in Burnie, Launceston, Devonport, Hobart and other outreach locations

Who can access it: LGBTIQA+ people, including people who are questioning or exploring their gender or sexuality, over the age of 15 who have experienced family violence perpetrated by intimate partners.

What they offer

Trauma-informed and evidence-based therapeutic work that supports safety and stabilization, recovery and healing

  • Risk assessment and safety planning
  • Short to long-term counselling in person, by phone or via Zoom

Important notes

The service is free and confidential

There’s usually no wait time, though you may be placed on a short waitlist depending on demand

They can’t currently support family violence occurring in other kinds of family relationships (such as violence from family of origin)
