Family Violence Counselling and Support Service (FVCSS)

Part of the Tasmanian Safe at Home initiative FVCSS is a government-run service that provides information, support and counselling to people who have been impacted by family violence. There are three main office locations:

Part of the Tasmanian Safe at Home initiative FVCSS is a government-run service that provides information, support and counselling to people who have been impacted by family violence. There are three main office locations:

  • Hobart (South)
  • Launceston (North)
  • Burnie (North-West)

Appointments can also be made to see clients in other locations beyond these main offices.

Who can use it: Services are offered to people in heterosexual or same-sex relationships. You can refer yourself, or someone else (like a doctor or police officer) can refer you.

What they offer

  • Free and voluntary professional counselling and support
  • Safety planning
  • Referrals to other services like legal help, financial support, or community organizations
  • Information about family violence and what help is available

Important to know

You don’t have to report to police first – you can call FVCSS instead if you prefer

It’s confidential, but if your safety is seriously at risk, they may need to share information with other government agencies (they’ll ask your permission first)

It’s part of the Safe at Home partnership, meaning they work closely with police, child safety, and other services

For children and young people: The Children and Young Persons’ Program (CHYPP) provides information, therapeutic counselling and support for children and young people and their care-giver affected by family violence where there has been a police report. To use CHYPP services, children must be living in a safe and stable environment.

When to call: 9am to midnight on weekdays, and 4pm to midnight on weekends and public holidays
