Men’s Resources Tasmania (MRT) is a community-based, volunteer-run, not-for-profit organisation that supports and promotes the wellbeing of men and boys in Tasmania. It’s a voice for men in the community, advocating for better support and services while also working to address the challenges men and boys face.

Coaching and Mentoring Services – “Building pathways” particularly focused on men engaged with the corrections system.

Creating Resources Creating resources to help men and boys get support.

Advocacy Advocating for men and boys to government and the community, contributing a male voice to community conversations and public sector policy.

Sharing Positive Stories about the contributions men and boys make to our community..

Recognizing men’s challenges While men continue to hold more positions of power and leadership in organisations and often dominate the makeup of board rooms, most men are not in those positions of power.

Focus on male victims of violence While a significant majority of current victim/survivors of family and sexual violence are women, men can also be victims of family violence, sexual assault (especially childhood abuse), and other trauma.

Better approaches to changing perpetrator behaviour Many men who use violence have experienced trauma themselves. Supporting men to deal with their own trauma may help reduce future violence. There’s a need for more effective, compassionate approaches alongside accountability

Important clarifications. MRT is

  • Not a men’s behaviour change program
  • Not a crisis counselling service

Not anti-women or anti-feminist. MRT supports gender equality. Their work is about addressing gaps in support for men, not opposing women’s services.
