SASS (Sexual Assault Support Service) operates in southern Tasmania, based in Hobart. It’s a specialist service that provides free, confidential, trauma-informed therapeutic support to victim-survivors of all ages who have experienced sexual violence.

Core Support Services

24/7 Crisis Response and Support

Phone: 1800 697 877 (1800 MY SUPPORT) Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Statewide.

Trauma Informed Counselling Services (free)

Individual counselling for adults of all ages and genders; children and young people; families affected by sexual violence; non-offending family members and support people. Service delivered across southern Tasmania.

Groups Program for those who prefer to work in groups as an alternative to one-to -one counselling.

Specialist Programs

PAST Program – Prevention, Assessment, Support and Treatment

SASS works in conjunction with Mission Australia to deliver the free PAST Program statewide for children and young people (aged 17 years and under) who are displaying Harmful Sexual Behaviour (HSB).

Primary Prevention Training and Education School Based Programs

SASS currently runs funded workshops in eight Tasmanian government secondary schools each year. These primary prevention workshops aim to stop intimate partner violence and sexual harm from occurring.

Resources including fact sheets about sexual assault; information booklets for survivors, families, and professionals; policy submissions and advocacy; research and reporting; and community awareness materials

  • You don’t need to report to police to access SASS services
  • You can access support whether the assault was recent or happened long ago
  • Services are available regardless of whether you pursue legal action
  • SASS does not see perpetrators/offenders – they focus solely on supporting survivors
