SisTas is a specialized free service run by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service. It provides culturally appropriate, trauma-informed support to Palawa victims and survivors of family violence and sexual assault. The service offers both legal and non-legal support:
Legal Support : holistic, trauma-informed legal assistance to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people who have experienced or are experiencing family violence and/or sexual assault. Available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as their families.
Non-Legal Support: holistic wrap-around non legal support alongside legal supports. This support is victim-centric, trauma-informed, strengths based and flexible in delivery. Works with the individual to understand where they need support and what they want this support to look like. delivery.
Support for Children : Works with children and young people who have experienced family violence or sexual assault and also supports parents in helping their children.
Community Work: SisTas partner with communities across Tasmania to deliver outreach, community events, and education focused on early intervention and prevention.
