Women’s Legal Service Tasmania (WLST) is a community legal service that provides free, confidential legal support specifically for women experiencing or who have experienced family violence. They support women in areas of family law, domestic violence, child protection, employment, sexual harassment, and discrimination. They have three offices across Tasmania:
- Hobart (main office)
- Burnie (specialist family violence unit for North-West Tasmania)
- Launceston (for Northern Tasmania)
What They Offer
Just healthy families is a Health Justice Partnership providing free legal help within health and social services, to reduce family violence in Tasmania. By embedding lawyers in trusted health and community settings, JHF enables early intervention and streamlined support. Northeast Outreach Weekly visits by outreach lawyers to a range of locations in north and northeast Tasmania
Temporary Visa Program for women who are on a temporary visa or don’t hold a visa and who are escaping family violence.
Community Legal Education to make legal information more accessible and more meaningful for both victim survivors and friends, family and allies.
