The Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting children and young people heal from trauma including family violence. In Tasmania, they have offices in Hobart, Launceston, and Ulverstone, and run two government-funded programs:
1. Support for children in out-of-home care: Provides intensive therapeutic support to children in out of home care and their support systems, where there is an identified trauma history impacting on their lives to a significant degree. This service is accessed through referrals from Child Safety Services only.
2. Family violence counselling: The Foundation has counsellors providing specialist family violence counselling to children and young people across Tasmania in a program supported by the state government. The counselling helps children who’ve witnessed or experienced family violence to understand what happened, realize it wasn’t their fault, and learn to trust again.
Other programs include
3. Safeguarding Children Services
Help organisations and businesses meet their Child Safe Organisations obligations. Experienced consultants work across sectors—including education, sport, disability, faith-based, early childhood, and government—to strengthen systems that prevent abuse and exploitation by employees and volunteers.
4. Training: The ACF is a Registered Training Organisation specialising in Bringing Up Great Kids, Safeguarding, and the Centre for Excellence in Therapeutic Care. See Training section of this website
