Baptcare’s family violence work primarily focuses on supporting children and families affected by family violence, rather than providing crisis response or specialist adult victim support.

Integrated Family Support Service (IFSS)

What It Is: The Integrated Family Support Service is designed to improve the safety, wellbeing, and health of children—from birth to 18 years old—and their families

Who Runs It: Baptcare is the lead agency for IFSS in Northern Tasmania and South-West Tasmania, working with other Alliance partners.

  • Who It’s For: Families with children aged 0-18 (or unborn children) who need support with:
  • Providing a safe and nurturing environment for children
  • Parenting strategies and practical skills
  • Improving confidence in parenting
  • Managing challenging childhood behaviors

What Makes It Relevant to Family Violence: Many families referred to IFSS are dealing with the impacts of family violence on their children and parenting.

SafeCare® Program

What It Is: A Tasmanian based program targeted at improving health care, home safety and parenting skills.

Who It’s For: Parents of children aged 0-5 years

How It Works: Delivered over 18-20 sessions in which certified providers come to your home.

What It Covers

  • Managing stress and challenging feelings
  • Fostering healthy self-esteem
  • Responding to children in sensitive, supportive ways
  • Health care skills
  • Home safety
  • Parent-child interaction

Why It Helps Victim-Survivors: SafeCare aims to prevent and address factors associated with child abuse including those that result from family violence. It’s particularly important for parents healing from family violence.

Caring Dads Program

What It Is: A group work program that helps men who have used violence in their relationships and focuses on improving parenting practices

Who It’s For: Men who

  • Have used violence in relationships
  • Have some regular contact with at least one child (0-16 years)
  • Want to strengthen relationships with their kids
  • NOT Eligible: Men convicted of child sexual abuse
