This is a free government service that helps Tasmanians who’ve experienced family violence.

What they offer

  • Counselling to help you process what happened
  • Someone to listen without judgment
  • Help dealing with trauma and stress
  • Practical help
  • Financial assistance for immediate needs (like temporary accommodation, food, clothing)
  • Help replacing items like phones or locks
  • Support getting to appointments
  • Legal support
  • Explain your options and rights
  • Help applying for a Family Violence Order
  • Support person to come to court with you
  • Information about the justice system
  • Other assistance
  • Referrals to housing, health services, or legal aid
  • Help with safety planning
  • Support for children who’ve witnessed violence
  • Compensation claims if you’ve been injured

You don’t need to

  • Report to police first (though they can help if you want to)
  • Have physical injuries
  • Prove what happened

The service is confidential and free. They understand family violence and will believe you. You can contact them whether the violence just happened or was years ago.
