Yemaya is a therapeutic family violence counselling service for victim/survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in Northern Tasmania. Yemaya provides a range of trauma-informed and evidence-based therapeutic services. Yemaya also operates from Outreach locations throughout the North of the state. Yemaya is:

Free and confidential.

For Women who have or are experiencing intimate partner violence.

For all Women over the age of 15, inclusive of sexual orientation, ability, marital or socioeconomic status, cultural, religious or ethnic background.

For Women who live, or are based in, Northern Tasmania.

  • Available face-to-face, by phone and/or online.
  • 1-1.5 hour appointments.

What they offer

  • One-on-one counselling and support, group programs, information and referral
  • A safe, confidential and non-judgmental space to talk about what you are going through

Group programs, including the Shark Cage program, that give women a safe place to talk, share and learn together, exploring topics like healthy relationships, the impact of abuse, your rights, and ways to build hope and strength

Community education and prevention work

The approach: They listen and believe you, help you look at your options and make your own choices, support your wellbeing and recovery, and link you with other help if needed. Whether you’re living with violence now, thinking about leaving, or healing from the past, they’re there to support you.

  • Yemaya is not a crisis service – it provides medium to long-term support
  • The office address is confidential and only given to women who make an appointment
  • It’s free and you need to call to make an appointment with a counsellor
  • The counsellors are trained in trauma-informed care and understand family violence
