The Salvation Army in Tasmania offers a range of services to support individuals and families affected by domestic violence.
Safe Housing McCombe House
A safe place to stay when you need to leave a violent situation. It’s in Southern Tasmania (the exact location is kept secret for safety).
You need to be referred by
- Safe at Home: 1800 633 937 (24/7)
- Tasmania Police
- Another family violence service
What You Get
- Your own private unit (not shared with other families)
- Your own bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and living room
How Long Can You Stay
As long as you need, while you figure out your next steps – this could be weeks or months.
Support While You’re There
You get help from trained workers who understand family violence and use trauma informed approaches . They help with:
- Safety and safety planning
- Money and Practical Things
- Connections to Other Help
- Emotional Support, counselling
- Help After You Leave (Outreach)
When you move out into your own place, you don’t lose support. Workers stay in touch with you for up to 12 months to:
- Check you’re safe and doing okay
- Help with any problems that come up
- Connect you to services you need
- Support you as you rebuild your life
- 2. Making Your Home Safe (Safer in the home program)
If it’s safe enough for you to stay in your home (and the perpetrator has left), the Salvation Army can help make your house more secure.

- Security screens
- Sensor lights
- Security doors
- Tech check to see if the abuser put tracking software on your phone or computer

- The Salvation Army has 25 locations across Tasmania that can help with:
- Food
- Help paying bills
- Emergency money
- Referrals to other services
- Everyone is welcome to access emergency help.
