Safe at Home is Tasmania’s integrated criminal justice response to family violence. It brings together multiple government agencies and community services – including police, counsellors, legal services, and support workers – to provide coordinated help to people affected by family violence.
When you make a family violence or family argument report in any of the following ways, the victim, perpetrator and children enter the Safe at Home system.
- Calling the Safe at Home Family Violence Response and Referral Line on 1800 633 937
- Calling 000 in an emergency
- Calling 131 444 for non-urgent reports
- Visiting your local police station
Calling the Family Violence Response and Referral Line on 1800 811 811 (this is run through the police radio room)
How it works
Integrated Case Coordination (ICC) is a key feature of Safe at Home – it acts as a safety hub in each region for family violence cases, ensuring that all risk and safety aspects are discussed and appropriate actions are taken
Weekly ICC meetings happen across Tasmania where different agencies discuss cases, including:
- Tasmania Police (including specialist Family Violence Units)
- Family Violence Counselling and Support Service
- Child Safety Services
- Legal Aid
- Community support organizations
- Health services
They coordinate to make sure you’re getting the right support and everyone knows what’s happening.
Support you’ll likely receive
- Depending on your situation, you might be connected to:
- Safe at Home Financial support programs
Family Violence Counselling and Support Service (1800 608 122) – free counselling, safety planning, and referrals
- Legal Aid lawyers – help with Family Violence Orders and family law matters
- Accommodation services – crisis housing if you need to leave
- Child Safety Services – if children are involved
- Other community services as needed
The whole idea is that once you make that first report, a coordinated team of professionals works together to keep you and your children safe.
